Horizon report

The research behind the Horizon Report: 2013 Higher Education Edition is jointly conducted by the New Media Consortium (NMC) and the EDUCAUSE Learning Initiative (ELI), an EDUCAUSE Program and is worth a read The Horizon Project, is a comprehensive research venture established in 2002 that identifies and describes emerging technologies likely to have a large impact over the coming five years in education around the globe. The main section highlights six promising technological areas and their practical, real-world applications in higher education settings. The six technologies featured in the Report are placed along three ‘adoption horizons’ that indicate likely timeframes for their entrance into mainstream use for teaching and learning:

Mid-term horizon

Games/gamification and Learning analytics

Far-term horizon

3D printing and Wearable technology
